WORK BASED ACTIVITIES

Employment and volunteering are one of the core elements of our Day Service with clients, staff and family being important players in the delivery of our vision of people with learning disabilities taking on valued roles in their community.

We have a major commitment towards ensuring that people with learning disabilities have a good day which is about building community opportunities and support so that people can have ordinary daily lives.

Opportunities such as:

  • Amber Active where people can get fit and healthy and make new friends whilst accessing community facilities
  • Amber Market Garden where we are working with local businesses and organisations to provide individualised support
  • Amber Community Enterprise which raises the possibility of self-employment
  • Outreach work based opportunities where we listen and think about people’s talents and abilities

Our expectation, which is part of a client’s Support Plan, is that we will support clients towards work and monitor their progress.  We have a strong community presence and together with organisations such as The Dolphin Centre, are creating a barrier-free community  where people are achieving inclusion in community life.

Bonnie, with support from our Outreach Team, her family and individualised funding, now volunteers at Café Rivers at The Dolphin Centre.  Café Rivers is located in reception and is a hive of activity offering an ideal spot to grab a quick bite to eat or relax with a cup of coffee. Providing an important role of ensuring that items are restocked and liaising with customers, Bonnie is achieving one of her life goals of working towards employment.

Congratulations to Bonnie and the Outreach Team and a big thank you to The Dolphin Centre.
